Visitation Rights

At some point I will get back to describing, in detail, the horrors of my previous jobs. At some point. Not today.

It is a testament to how much I like my new job that this afternoon, on my day off, I was willing to go in and visit while I was in the neighborhood. I even brought some brownies for my coworkers. It was very cool. I caught my boss while she was in the office eating her lunch, and we just sat and chatted. Then my boyfriend wandered in, having finished with his bank business down the block, and the three of us got on like a house on fire.

In the year that I have been in DC, I’ve had something of a difficult time finding a social group. At the Building Museum, those coworkers who were my age were, not to put too fine a point on it, boring. I had a very hard time connecting with them in any kind of engaging manner, and as a result felt very much like an outsider during my time there. At Trader Joe’s all my coworkers were boys who thought I was jailbait. And, of course, working for aka Meryl Streep was so frustrating that by the end of the day I was too exhausted to socialize and too annoyed with her to be her friend.

Therefore, to be working in an environment where everyone speaks the same (teasing, clever, witty, bickering) language as me is quite the novelty. I like it very much.
