And the list goes on
I met someone the other day who had worked one job his entire life. He was an older gentleman, and had started work at a factory after high school and stayed there until he retired. I had a hard time even imagining it. I said to him, “I’m 23 and I’ve already had at least ten jobs!”
He gave me the hairy eyeball, and in self-defense I changed the subject. These are different times, there are different expectations; hell, we’re different people, isn’t that reason enough? I thought it might be interesting to think back to the jobs I’ve had, see if I can list them all.
The ones that probably don’t count: at the age of 8, I sold jewelry I had made at the YMCA summer block party. I think I made forty dollars. It was exciting. Also, when I was 12 I spent a summer babysitting a 7-year-old full-time (oh god, she’s 18 now, I can’t even stand it).
